The Me & Mine Project – January 2018

Our family - January 2018

January has been a fairly busy month for us. We've had family days out, lots of things to organise and have been trying to continue decluttering our house.

At the beginning of January, we had a day out in Newcastle. We caught up with one of my friends from dancing who was visiting from Australia. We had crepes and coffee for breakfast then did some shopping. After she left to go down to London, my boys and I got some goodies from the Body Shop and Lush.

We took Elijah to get some passport photos taken - he was good as gold and the photographer was brilliant with him. We even got a cute picture of him smiling! He seems to be loving the camera at the moment - whenever I pull out my DSLR to take photos for my shop, he stands in front of me going "Say cheese!" on repeat until I take a picture of him!

We also took Elijah to try out a gymnastics class last weekend. He was a bit unsure at first but warmed up eventually - he loved jumping on the mats and crawling through a tunnel. We've decided to take him to a few more classes before we decide whether to continue going.

As for my business, I've been busy working on orders (which is always wonderful), and getting my website up and running in the background.

I think February may be a bit of a quieter month - although we still have a few things to do in the next week or so. I'm hoping to write a few extra blog posts and read more, too.

What have you been up to this month? Let me know in the comments!

The Me + Mine Project - Dear Beautiful

18 for 2018

Coffee, Book & Glasses

I haven’t really ever been good at sticking to New Year’s resolutions, but my lovely friend Lucy shared a post recently, 18 for 2018. Leslie from Messy Blog UK has kindly tagged me to take part so as I sit here reflecting on this year and thinking about the future I thought I would share my list of 18 for 2018. The idea of this is that it’s partly a bucket list and partly goal setting, with a focus on putting yourself first.

The New Year always makes me feel refreshed, reinvigorated and positive, so without further ado, here is my 18 for 2018:

  1. Drink more water

I started drinking more water at the beginning of this year and felt much better for it, but as the year went on I fell off the bandwagon with it. I am going to make an effort to drink at least 2-3 big bottles of water a day.

  1. Cleanse, tone, moisturise

I have been a bit up and down with my skincare routine this year, and I have noticed recently that my skin is much drier. I am going to get back into doing my skincare routine twice a day and will try to do a face mask at least once a week.

  1. Find a good hair mask

I have been trying to grow my hair longer for a while now and I have regular trims to keep it healthy, but it has been very dry. I’m going start using a hair mask once a week. If anyone uses a hair mask, I would love to hear your recommendations.

  1. Take my vitamins

Another thing I have been a bit up and down with this year. I’m going to make sure I set a daily reminder on my phone to take my vitamins

  1. Walk more

I got into a good routine for a while with going for daily walks and was aiming for 10,000 steps a day but stopped when I was having more and more issues with my back and it got too cold. I’m not going to put any pressure on myself but will try to get out for a gentle walk a few times a week.

  1. Read 12 books

I have recently started trying to read a little bit each day when I hop into bed, so I think this goal is definitely achievable. I’ll be keeping track of my progress on Goodreads.

  1. Continue to be mindful about food

Smaller portion sizes, healthier choices, only eating until I feel satisfied rather than full. Eat a bigger breakfast, and a smaller lunch and dinner.

  1. Lose more weight

I managed to lose some weight in 2017 but I still have a long way to go. I’m going to start tracking my progress on My Fitness Pal again to help myself get back on track with it

  1. Declutter

This year I made a start on decluttering our house. I’m going to continue this in 2018

  1. Start a bullet journal

I wanted to do this in 2017 but never really got around to it. I’m going to buy myself a notebook and start one in 2018

  1. Start meal planning again

I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired with food recently so I’m going to start planning our meals again and will try out at least one new recipe a week

  1. Bake more

I have three Ella’s Kitchen books that have some really yummy looking recipes in them, I'd love to start baking with my little boy

  1. Write more

I love writing but haven’t done much for quite a while now. Most of the things I’ve written for my blog this year are sitting in my drafts waiting to be published. In 2018 I’m going to find some linkys to join and get back into blogging regularly

  1. Improve my photography skills

I’m doing a self-paced photography course that I haven’t finished yet, 2018 is going to be the year that I finish it and focus on learning more about my camera and photography

  1. Explore more with my boys

We had some lovely adventures together this year, I can’t wait to go on more and document them in 2018

  1. Take part in the Me and Mine Project

I keep saying to my husband I want try to take at least one family photo a month so I’m going to get involved with the Me and Mine project

  1. Improve my Italian

I used to be near fluent in Italian but I’ve lost a lot of confidence when it comes to speaking the language. I’m going to make an effort to speak Italian with my family more

  1. Start The Jar Project

Beginning on New Years Day, I will start filling an empty jar with little notes about good things that happen throughout the year. Then next New Year’s Eve, I’ll read through and reminisce about all the good things that happened

I'd like to tag Karen from Our Irish Family, Deborah from Country Heart and Home, Victoria from The Growing Mum, Jess from Tantrums to Smiles, Katie from Living Life Our Way, Sarah from Mummy Cat Notes, Fazeelah from DhillonDeeds, Georgina from Georgina Clarke, Naomi from Me Becoming Mum and Katie from Heels and Hooves.

Do you set goals each year on New Years Eve? If so, I would love to hear some of your goals for 2018

What My Kid Wore Wednesday #3

I am back again this week joining up with the What My Kid Wore Wednesday linky. I have really enjoyed choosing outfits and taking photos for these posts the last few weeks. (Have a look here and here if you missed the first two.)

T-Shirt - Primark | Shorts - Sainsburys | Sandals - La Redoute

We got this gorgeous t-shirt from Primark a couple of months before Elijah was born (when I wasn't on crutches or constantly in pain with PGP). It is definitely one of my favourite things we have ever bought for him. I love the way my little monkey looks in a collared shirt. Very dapper! I thought it would look nice paired with some shorts so I picked out these khaki ones. I've never really been a big fan on khaki until just recently. And finally, I featured these sandals from La Redoute in another post a few weeks ago. We bought them for our trip to Australia last year and his little feet can still just squeeze into them. I would love to get him some in a bigger size for our trip in December as it will be summer over there.

What My Kid Wore Wednesday #2

We have had a fairly quiet week so far, and the sunshine seems to have disappeared. Hopefully, it will come back again soon...*sings* Oh Mister Sun, Sun, Mister Golden Sun, please shine down on me...

I've decided to link up with the What My Kid Wore Wednesday linky again this week so let's jump straight in.

Top - La Redoute | Jeans - Next | Shoes - Purebaby

We got this t-shirt from La Redoute last year before we went on holiday. I love clothes like this - not too busy but still cute and trendy. And also monochrome - give me all the monochrome. I think we got these jeans from Next secondhand in size 9-12 months and they are huge on Elijah. He is quite small for his age at 18 months. And of course, we picked the same gorgeous blue shoes we featured last week from Purebaby. If you don't know of Purebaby, it is an Australian shop full of beautiful organic baby clothes. They have so many gorgeous things, I would definitely recommend checking them out.

What My Kid Wore Wednesday #1

We have had such lovely weather so far this week - spring has well and truly sprung. Elijah and I have been enjoying going for a walk together during the day and spending some time in the garden in the afternoon while we wait for Joel to come home. We used to just look out the window for him but it's so much nicer to wait outside and Elijah loves having a wander around.

The other day I thought I would snap a few quick photos of Elijah and share his cute little outfit. I also thought I would link up with a new kids fashion linky What My Kid Wore Wednesday hosted by Sarah at This Mama Life and Hannah at Just Hannah Jane.

Here is Elijah’s outfit for this week:

Top - M&S | Overalls - George at ASDA | Shoes - Purebaby

I love overalls on little people. They are so cute and it's so easy to put together a nice, casual outfit without too much effort. These ones are extra cute with Mickey Mouse on them - I love everything Disney. I love dressing Elijah in grey tops, I think they really bring out his gorgeous blue eyes. And we have two pairs of these little blue shoes that we bought when we were in Australia last year. They are perfect for him to wear while wandering around the house.

My Top 5 Picks of Shoes for Boys

My top 5 picks of shoes for boys

Over the weekend we took Elijah to the park. Most of the time when we go out on weekends I take him in our stretchy wrap because I find that it's so much easier than getting the pram in and out of the car all the time. And it also means we have more space in the car for our shopping.

He's at this stage where he's so close to walking, but he doesn't quite have the confidence just yet to let go of our hands. Just the last week or so he has started walking beside us holding one hand which is a huge improvement. A few weeks ago he didn't even want to stand in front of us without gripping on to us with two hands and holding on for dear life! Sometimes when we're at home and he's walking around the furniture he will let go and take two or three steps towards us but that's the most he'll do by himself.

So when we were at the park he was wanting to walk up to the other kids to see what they were doing and play with them. And when we were getting ready to leave, he wanted to walk in between us holding our hands as we walked along the path through the park. On the way home, we went to get his feet measured so we could start looking to get him some proper first walking shoes.

Since then I've been looking online to find some to buy for Elijah, which hasn't been easy because his feet are quite small at a size 3.5 UK. However, I have found some that I love so I wanted to share with you a few of my favourite ones. Here are my top 5 picks of shoes for boys:

Bobux Swap Shoes - Navy Blue || £35

I love navy blue shoes for little boys - and these are no exception. I think this particular style is quite versatile as they are casual enough to be worn as everyday shoes, but they also look quite smart and dressy so would be perfect for a special occasion too.

Bobux Trackside Sneakers - White/Navy || £35

Also from Bobux, are these adorable trainers. These are a much more casual, sporty style which I also love. Perfect for little boys who want to run around and kick a football or play in the playground.

Gap Suede Lace-Up Booties || £14.99 (normally £19.95)

Something a little bit different - I adore these suede lace-up boots from Gap. I love Gap for boys clothes and I think these little boots would look so cute with a pair of shorts during the spring and summer months or with jeans during autumn and winter. A great all-year round shoe - and they are on sale at the moment too, bonus!

Office Converse All Stars - Black Canvas || £44.99

A bit of a classic - black Converses. These are a casual and comfy everyday shoe. I would love for us all to have matching Converses some day. They have them for men, women and kids from Office - now I just have to convince my husband that we need them!

La Redoute R Essentiel Sandals - Navy Blue || £23

A few months before our last holiday abroad we bought Elijah these gorgeous navy blue sandals from La Redoute. They were slightly big for him at the time but he still wore them. I love them so much, I would love to get another pair of these for him in the next size up. They often have sales on La Redoute, which is fantastic.

What do you think of these shoes for little boys (or girls)? What are your favourite places to shop for shoes? Let me know in the comments or send me a tweet.

Getting Organised, Memories & The ABC’s of Genuine Happiness

A few days ago I realised that all the photos and videos of Elijah as a newborn I have on my phone weren't backed up to my computer. This confused me because I regularly sync and backup my iPhone. After doing a little digging, I discovered what the issue was and have managed to start transferring everything to my computer.

It's not completely done yet, and it's not an easy task because I have thousands of photos and hundreds of videos from the past almost 3 years. Literally. I'm not sure if it's normal to have as many photos and videos as I do, maybe it's a mum thing? Or maybe not. Maybe it's just the type of person that I am, I love taking photos and capturing memories. We only have one life, and we are so lucky to have the technology that we do these days that so many of us probably take for granted. But honestly, I am almost embarrassed to admit just how many there were - over 10,000 photos and almost 400 videos.

I would be interested to know how many photos and videos other people have in their camera roll at the moment, just for reassurance if anything. Please do let me know in the comments to help me feel a bit more normal.

Anyway, while sorting through some of them (and trying to make extra space on my phone for new photos) I found a note I had saved and I thought it was too good not to share.

I have been feeling a bit low for a while now, and it really helped me to read this and remember what is important in life. I truly believe that if there is a secret to genuine happiness this would be exactly it.

Hello

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I thought I would begin by telling you a little bit about myself. I'm Mrs Warburton, also known as Amanda. I have a wonderful husband, called Joel and a gorgeous little boy, called Elijah who is a cheeky little monkey.

Some of the things I love the most are exploring, going on adventures and capturing memories with my little family. I can't get out of bed without my morning coffee (lovingly made by my husband). I love dancing, reading, baking and all things crafty. And last but not least...I am a chocoholic. That pretty much sums me up.

My family on on my wedding day

I have been blogging for a few years now (you might recognise me on Instagram or Twitter) but, for a long while I had been feeling uninspired and underwhelmed with my blog. So after giving it a lot of thought, I recently decided a fresh start is exactly what I need.

This blog is a place for me to share the little things and the big things. I hope you will join me on this journey and follow our adventures.
